Pixelpipe QuickPost: Write Once, Post Everywhere
by admin
Welcome back to another fun week of mobile apps for your Nokia device here at MyDailyApp.com! We’re glad you made it. Technically, this is Week #2 for us, but it will be our first full week of posts – Monday through Friday of this week, so expect at least 5 posts this week – more if the typing fingers get twitchy.
This week, we’re going to “touch” on some of the other good stuff to come out of Nokia World last week, and we will also focus our attention on apps for Nokia’s touch-enabled devices (i.e., those that run S60 5th Edition, such as the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, the Nokia N97 – and others that are coming soon like the new Nokia N97 mini).
Today, we’re going to keep it simple, and talk about an app that essentially does one thing, but does it really, really well. We’re talking about Pixelpipe for Share Online, and specifically the latest tweak for that app which is a “Quick Post” widget so that you can easily make updates to your various social networking services, or post to your blog site directly from your mobile device.
Now, before we begin, we would be remiss if we did not mention that Pixelpipe for Share Online was a finalist in the Internet Innovation category of Forum Nokia’s 2009 Calling All Innovators contest, and in fact, came in 3rd place (think Olympic Bronze, so not too shabby). Even better when you consider that those three finalists were selected from more than 150 submissions in that specific category. This short video demo will begin to show you why it is a winner – and why it is such a handy little widget:
As you can see, with Pixelpipe for Share Online, you can sync up with any of the myriad services you happen to use for connecting with the rest of the world – at last count it was more than 100 different services, and it includes all of the big names you would expect to find (like Flickr, YouTube, Facebook, MySpace, hi5, Twitter, Blogger, TypePad, and WordPress), but it also includes a lot of other services that we will guess you have never heard of before (let’s be honest, now). The point is, no matter how you social network (or is it “network socially”?), Pixelpipe is your direct feed to all of those services. This little diagram gives you the general idea:
Now, with Pixelpipe QuickPost, you have all of the functionalityof the original app, with fewer buttons to push to get the job done. Within the app, you can select from “Post to Status” to have your updates sent to sites like Twitter or Facebook; and “Post to Blog.” You can easily configure the app, and add or change services as needed. Updates are about as simple as this:
The beauty of course is that you suddenly have a very accurate shotgun with which to blast out your latest personal – or professional – updates. Write once, and post everywhere you see fit.
On a device like the Nokia N97, this app makes good use of the touch-screen input on the device to minimize the number of clicks needed to perform specific functions, and combined with access to a qwerty-style keyboard, you can get your posts out there just about as fast as you can type. (And I’m a fairly quick typist.)
Let’s be clear, Pixelpipe is a broadcasting tool – it is not a receiver for reading the stuff you get from the rest of the world. But if you have a lot to say – or simply a lot of places that you want to say just what it is you have to say in the first place, then Pixelpipe QuickPost should be your next download.
And, to make it even easier for you, Pixelpipe QuickPost is free to download in Ovi Store.
App Compatability:
- Devices: S60 5th Edition devices, such as Nokia N97
- Languages: English
- Countries: Global distribution
Do you use social networking tools and websites? If so, what do you prefer? Where do you post the most? Share your feedback below.
And one more thing – there is a GREAT Article in Forbes.com about a popular Twitter app for Nokia S60 devices called Gravity. In fact, it is only available on the Symbian platform – if you use one of those other mobile phones, you’re simply out of luck (SOL, as they say). We’ll have a full review of Gravity soon. In the meanwhile, if you have not heard of Gravity before, take a look at this article.
