Speereo Voice Translator: A Digital Swiss Army Knife of Travel Tools

by JasonBlack

The Speereo Voice Translator app might merit more than one post here at the Daily App blog, because it has a lot going on at once. The name of the app is almost misleading – and not in a bad way, but because you go in expecting a translator tool, and suddenly you are presented with a bevy of features that go well above and beyond merely translating phrases on the go.Now, for starters, the app (from Speereo Software UK) is provided as a free, five-day trial in Ovi Store, which should be plenty of time to get acquainted with it. At first, there may be a slight pause as you bypass the log-in page seeking a registration code. For purposes of trying the app, just press the “Cancel” button, and you will be brought in to the main page for the app.

One other note about this free trial: it does not include all of the features of the full, paid-version of the app. For instance, within the translator tool, you will only have access to the “Travel” section for translation, and within that section a number of sub-categories; and the trial version will only translate one language for you.

I have been trying it with the Spanish translations (you select your translate from and translate to languages within the app settings section), and it is pretty convenient. It includes a broad range of standard phrases and inquiries you might make while traveling, and when you click on one of them, the app shows you the translated text, and also speaks it to you in that language (the voice is a wee bit computerized, but considering how many different phrases there are available for translating, this is not a real problem).

In the paid version of the app, according to the developer’s website, there is the option to translate between 16 languages: English, Spanish, German,
French, Italian, Russian, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional,
Turkish, Portuguese, Korean, Japanese, formal Arabic, Finnish, Polish,
Danish.

In the Flight section, there is a limited number of status requests you can make while using the trial version. However, the app promises loads of flight details in the paid version of the app.

Other features of the app include:

  • In the clocks section of the app you can display the local time, as well as clocks for four other time zones around the world.
  • The currencies tool can be updated online, and it will display the value of your selected currency compared to three other forms of currency around the world of your choosing.
  • The weather section provides a four-day forecast for up to three different locations.
  • There is a conversion tool that covers everything from length, volume, weight, temperatures – and even Ladie’s footwear and dress sizes for the U.S., UK, Europe and Japan! If you’re going shoppping for that someone special while away from home, you’ll never return with the wrong size!

And, we didn’t even talk about the fact that the full version of the app offers City Guides, too. (Watch the video below to see for yourself!)

Now, let’s be clear, the free version is a limited trial, but this seems like more than enough information to make an informed decision about buying the app. At that point, if you want the paid version, you can get it directly from the developer – there is both a two-language version (20 euro), and the 16-language version (30.95 euro). At first glance, this might seem like an expensive app. But based on how many tools you have, all rolled in to one convenient package, this actually seems quite reasonable.

Need more evidence? Watch this video demo from the developer, showing the app in action on a Nokia E71:

The Speereo Voice Translator app – and remember, it’s so much more than just a translator – is free to download for a five-day trial from Ovi Store.

App Compatibility:

  • Devices: Nokia S60 3rd Edition and S60 5th Edition devices
  • Languages: 16, according to the developer
  • Countries: Global
