If You Can’t Get Enough of ‘New Moon’ – Take It with You
by JasonBlack
In it’s first two weekends at movie theaters across the United States, the second installment in the Twilight saga, called “New Moon” has now grossed more than $200 million in ticket sales. Not too shabby – and there’s plenty of speculation about whether it will continue to be a box office smash, or if it will fade into the background with the light of day …
At the same time, there’s plenty of buzz right now for e-books – and all things capable of reading them – especially as we enter the countdown of 24 more shopping days until Christmas …
So what does the hype over “New Moon” have in common with the frenzy for e-books? You can now download an e-book version of “New Moon” directly to your Nokia S60 device, and take the story with you, wherever you go.

And, on a device like the Nokia N97, where the screen size is generous, you get a nice, easy-to-read view of the text. You can only view the text in portrait mode – not landscape – but I suppose this is almost like holding a small book. To “turn” the pages, all you do is flick your finger across the screen (well, on a touch-enabled, S60 5th Edition device) to go back and forth.
As you can see from the screenshot above, this app let’s you do more than just read the book. You can use the options to adjust the colors of the background and the fonts, and you can also easily adjust the size of the font displayed to suit your needs. (One oddity to note – there is what appears to be some “dummy text” at the top of the Options page – not sure why – small editorial oversight somewhere … but forgivable.)
And, you can easily bookmark pages – either to mark a passage of interest that you want to return to later, or to simply mark your spot when you stop reading. To add a bookmark, all you do is touch the current page you are reading – this will return you to the menu listing above, and then you click on the “bookmarks” link in the middle of that list. You will have the option to bookmark the current page that you are on – and, of course, you can save multiple bookmarks, as needed.
Reading the book is very smooth, and easy to do – as you advance from one page to the next, the page you completed slide off to the left as the new page takes it place. I have the book set to read with a background color of black, and the copy in a very light shade of gray – this is the default setting from the app, but it seems very comfortable for reading, and I suspect could be handled in a wide variety of lighting conditions (whether commuting to work on the bus, or at night in bed before going to sleep).
Now, naturally, I don’t want to give it away – although I suspect many of you know what’s coming … But for those who are not familiar with the modern tale of vampires living among us, here’s the opening of the e-book:

The New Moon e-book, from the UK-based publisher GoSpoken.com (part of Mobcast), is available in Ovi Store for $4.99 (USD), which is less than the cost of buying the paperback – and certainly easier to carry.
