Texas Hold’em. A game that has been around since the early 1900s, but has been surging in popularity during the 2000s.

For those of you not familiar with the game, Texas hold ‘em, like all variants of poker, is a card game where individuals compete for an amount of money contributed by the players themselves (called the pot). Because the cards are dealt randomly and outside the control of the players, each player attempts to control the amount of money in the pot based on the hand the player holds.

Some call it a game of luck, but quite honestly I believe that it is truly a game of skill. (And yes, luck does not hurt). So where does ‘Poker Minder’ fit in with the Texas Hold’em phenomenon? Simple: Poker Minder is a home poker tournament manager for use on your Nokia mobile device to ensure your home poker tournaments run without a hitch.

Here’s how it works…

Step 1 – Get a group of close friends to play some Texas Hold’em.

Step 2 – Setup the game rules as far as amount of time and the cost for the small and big blinds.

Step 3 – Purchase chips and distribute.

Step 4 – Who will start as the dealer?

Step 5 – Start the timer, then shuffle up and deal!

I actually got a chance to get the guys together and put Poker Minder to use. It immediately became a huge help. We got to replace the egg timer that we used to use, and exchanged it for my Nokia 6700 running Poker Minder. This is a great app for all the poker players out there. In addition to setting your own rules for your card game, there are also some preset game styles for you to try out and enjoy.
