Socially Can Tell You ‘What’s Up’ Before Answering the Phone
by JasonBlack
I’ve been happily playing with a handy little app called Socially Mobile for the past few weeks, and talking it up to just about anyone that will sit still long enough to let me show it off. The app is free in Ovi Store, and you can use it to easily corral your leading social networking resources in a single place. With an easy-to-follow tab-based navigation, you can see the latest info from your friends on Facebook, your Twitter account, and your LinkedIn account (one tab for each view).
Even better, you can quickly write posts using Socially Mobile, and send those messages directly to all three of those online social networking sites at once.
You can use the app to easily see the latest info from your friends and contacts within the three social networking sites mentioned, so you can see recent details at a glance.
But best of all – and you’re going to have to take my word for it, because I wasn’t able to get a screenshot to prove it, but I promise this works: Socially Mobile integrates with the adddress or phone book listings in your Nokia mobile device, and when a friend calls, you can see that person’s latest status updates while the phone is still ringing. Your friend’s profile picture pops up, and it shows you the latest status update for that friend, pulled from Facebook. This is really nifty stuff here. The phone rings, and I know it is my friend Bill, and I can see his status update on the spot. If his status is recent, I will know “what’s up” before our conversation even begins!
The app also displays a notice about when you last spoke to that individual, too.
Need more features? The app works on a huge range of Nokia Symbian devices, and now includes touch-enabled devices like the Nokia N97 mini. On devices such as those, the app displays equally well in portrait or landscape mode – the latter being very practical if you are using the device keyboard to write status updates. The current list of supported Nokia devices is on the Socially website.
Oh, and one more feature that is worth a mention. See that little icon to the right of the social networking logos with the picture of a mobile device and the little red “no” symbol? That’s a call blocking feature built into the app, so if you get a call from a number that is not in your phone’s address book, Socially asks if you want to add that number to a blocked call list. If you say “Yes” any future calls from that number are supposed to be blocked at the door. I’ve haven’t needed to use it – yet! – but it is nice to know that it is there.
Socially Mobile was created by Singapore-based Antarix Networks, and it is free in Ovi Store.
