Endomondo Sports Tracker Can Motivate Your Workout Routine
by RiikkaJarvinen
I like to run. I like to stay fit. The challenge is that as a working mom with two small kids I don’t have too much spare time in my hands. So I need some help and a motivator to keep me exercising. And I’ve found a great assistant in Ovi store – it’s called Endomondo Sports Tracker.
The Endomondo Sports Tracker uses the built-in GPS in your Nokia mobile device to track your outdoor fitness activities. The variety of sports is really quite impressive (20 in total), including: running, cycling, roller skating, skiing, snowboarding, kayaking, sailing, rowing and even kite surfing (I didn’t even know that is a sport!).
I downloaded the app to my Nokia N97 and was eager to test it. Too bad the weather in my home country has been way too cold for running lately, so I decided to take a brisk walk instead.
It took a little while for the app to locate me, but finally it did and I took off. During my exercising, the app kept me updated on the duration, distance and average speed. I’m used to the metric system (which is the default for the app), but you can easily change the settings to miles if that is your preference.
When you’re done exercising, you can upload the details of your workout to the Endomondo website.
On the website, you can view your full training log, including information on speed, duration, distance, altitude and the path of your workout tracked on a map.
This is interesting, but what really is important to me is the workout calendar. It shows me at a glance how little I have exercised during the past month!
So before I start experimenting with the more advanced features built in to the app, like competing against friends, following them live while they are doing their workouts, or sharing the results of my workouts on Facebook, I need to do one thing: exercise more often!
Happily, I think Endomondo should help to keep me motivated. Now, if it could only do something to improve the weather …
The Endomondo Sports Tracker is free to download in Ovi Store; and according to the Endomondo website, the app should work on a broad range of Nokia mobile devices.

Editor’s Note: First, our thanks to our colleague Riikka Jarvinen for agreeing to test this app for us! Next, Endomondo is currently hosting a “challenge” on their website (through 14 March) to see who can post the highest number of calories burned over the next two weeks. Ten winners will receive Endomondo armbands to hold their mobile phones. What are you waiting for? Feel the burn! Enter the challenge now!
