Joyeye Morphs Pictures Taken with Nokia Camera Phones

by JasonBlack

This morning we took a look at the photo app Raviteq ImageStudio, and now – just for fun – let’s really change the way we look at the world around us with the Joyeye Lite application, which turns the camera built in to your Nokia S60 3rd Edition device (such as the Nokia E72), into the equivalent of a lomography studio.

What is lomography? It is described as “a new style of artistic experimental photography of unorthodox snapshots.” And that is putting it mildly. Think colorizing filters, and fish-eye lenses, and you start to get the idea. This is just scratching the surface here – the experts in this field of photography will probably cringe at my gross over-simplification of the concept (apologies for that!).

So, with the Joyeye app installed, you can start to experiment with the the photos you take on your Nokia device. And, you can use the app to take pictures using the camera built in to your device (from the Joy Camera icon above), or you can edit pictures that are already stored on the device using those same built-in filters that are included with the app (the Joy Filter icon).

The app also includes a variety of options for sharing your results online (Joy Share icon above). You need to register with the Joyeye website to do that, but it’s free and only take a minute or two. From there, you can also sync your account with other sharing sources, like Twitter, or Pixelpipe – with the latter, you can connect to many other services where you can then share the results of your photographic expressions. And, the sharing functionality is really fast (although it will depend on the Internet connection of your device, and airtime charges may be required). you can also create short, Twitter-length blog posts within the app (Joy Microblog icon), if you want to write about what you’re doing – those posts will also be synced online, like your pictures.

To really appreciate the app, you need to see the results. I managed to get my cat (my muse?), Tigger, to sit still long enough to snap a few quick pix using some of the available filters in the app, and the results are quite funky (IMO). Here he is in a multi-view mode (resized for the blog format):

And, in a self-reflective mood?

There are many other filters to try within the Joyeye Lite app, include colors, and sepia tone, and something that is supposed to be like a Polaroid, but it isn’t quite what I was hoping it might be – still cool, though.

One small note: The app and website for Joyeye originates in China, and the English translation within the app is a little rough around the edges, but it is certainly clear enough to understand what you can do with the app.

The Joyeye Lite application is available in Ovi Store, and is free to download.
