With Fizwoz, Mobile Pictures Could Be Worth More Than 1,000 Words
by JasonBlack
Nokia is well known for having great cameras built in to many of their mobile phones. I know I rely on and use the camera built in to my Nokia mobile devices for many everyday occasions, like pictures of the kids, or the cat with his head stuffed in a glass trying to reach the water, or that pie my wife made for our dessert. But what if you’re out and about, and you see something that actually seems “newsworthy” – a celebrity sighting or a severe weather event in action?
Wouldn’t it be cool if you could take a picture – or a quick video – and not only post it online (that part is easy, and there are plenty of apps for that!) and then offer the image or video for sale to the highest bidder? That is the promise of an app in Ovi Store called fizwoz Mobile.
Install the free fizwoz application, register for the service – it only takes a few seconds – and you’re ready to go.
You can upload photos or videos to fizwoz that are already on your mobile device, or you can take a picture of something that you see – something that you think is going to be worth selling – and upload it to the fizwoz service where you offer it in an online auction for purchase by the highest bidder. Images that have sold on fizwoz include pictures of Tom Cruise, Ashton Kutcher, Cindy Crawford, and even Steven Segal! There are also categories for fun stuff, famous landmarks, and of course breaking news, too.
In this short video, Andy Sheldon, CEO of fizwoz, explains the process and demonstrates the app on the Nokia N900:
My one small nit to pick with the app – and this is really minor – if you want to take pictures on the spot within the application, the button to “launch camera” is below the folders for photos and videos within the “upload” section and is somewhat hidden from view. When testing the app on my Nokia N97 mini, I had to scroll down to find that option. Once you do, it is easy to get rolling – the app then starts the camera built in to the device, and after snapping that special picture, the fizwoz app walks you through the upload process: you add a caption, a description, select a category, and you name both your starting price and your “buy now” price. You get a quick preview of your image and the auction details and then if you’re satisfied, click the post button and let fizwoz do the rest!
Now, I must confess, so far I don’t think I have images on my Nokia device that are ready for an online auction, but with fizwoz installed I can be ready for that future moment in time when I stumble across a scene that just might be sales worthy. When that happens, you can set up fizwoz to provide you with notifications of the process for your auction, so you’ll know just how much your picture is really worth. A picture that worth’s 1,000 words? Nope – not any more. I’m thinking bigger here … much, much bigger.
Does anyone know where I can find Steven Segal?
The fizwoz Mobile app is available for a broad range of Nokia Symbian (S60 3rd Edition and 5th Edition) devices as well as the Nokia N900, and is free to download in Ovi Store.
