We often get questions asking us about our ideas and suggestions for new applications in Ovi Store that are worth a try. What’s cool? What’s hot? What are the Top Apps?

This doesn’t come to us as too much of a surprise – we’re trying new apps everyday! And, we love sharing our opinion about all of the good stuff that you can find and download from Ovi Store. But this week we stumbled across a new app in Ovi Store that we hadn’t expected – and one that helps to answer those questions that are posed to us. It’s called “topApps on Ovi Store” – what could be easier than that?

topApps is a free application for use on Nokia touch-enabled devices (running S60 5th Edition), that features a homescreen widget for devices like the Nokia N97, and loads of details about content in Ovi Store that is referenced in ways that encourage exploration and discovery.

Across the top of the application you will see three tabs for Featured, Staff Picks – and (my personal favorite) Reviewed. The Featured section breaks the content down thematically (and there are plenty of choices here to suit your interests), and by region/country, and then within each theme, it further splits the content into those apps that are free or paid.

This screen shows on the Featured areas, specifically those apps that have been released directly by Nokia. When you click on any of the titles, you get a more detailed description, as well as links to download the app, or share with a friend, similar to what you would expect if you were looking around directly in Ovi Store.

The Staff Picks section highlights both free and paid applications that people working for Ovi Store think are cool, fun and worth your while. And taking a quick look at some of the apps that they have selected, it is easy to see they have good taste in apps.

The last tab is, in my opinion, especially worthwhile! It is labeled “Reviewed” and it features a feed from – can you guess where? – the Ovi Daily App blog! So, whenever new reviews are posted here on the blog, you’ll know about it right away. As you can see below, each post begins with a quick summary about that specific app, and if you want more information, just click on it to get the full review.

Now, truth be told, I didn’t know this app was going to feature our content from Ovi Daily App, but of course, we’re thrilled – and honored to be presented in this way.

A few other quick notes: The app works equally well in either portrait or landscape mode, and within the Settings section you can set the frequency for how often you want the app to pull in new updates.
