Gravity Adds Google Reader to Twitter App for Nokia S60 Devices
by MartinMarshall
We previously reviewed Gravity, a highly useful app that combines multiple Twitter account management with some great uploading capabilities, and had an interview with mobile entrepreneur Jan Ole Suhr last fall over at the Forum Nokia blogs. As Gravity has evolved and now includes a Google Reader in the S60-based Twitter client, it seemed like a good time to revisit the app, which runs on both Nokia S60 5th Edition and S60 3rd Edition devices.
First, a reminder of Gravity’s key features: It supports multiple Twitter accounts, with image uploading to TwitPic, MobyPicture, TwitGoo and Posterous. It also supports multiple Twitter searches, Groups, Audio Alerts, and Auto-Connect.
Gravity now also supports reading RSS news feeds via Google Reader. With this feature, you can keep up with the latest news on the topics of your choice while still following your Twitter friends. The News Reader in Gravity shows posts sorted into folders and displays the locally unread posts as well as the unread posts in your Google Reader account.
I checked out the new Gravity with my Nokia N97 during the recent National Football League draft activities in America. From my Gravity home screen, I clicked on Options, and then entered #NFLdraft in the search field. It pulled up the screen full of tweets below.
I selected the top tweet by NFLprguy, and then clicked on Options.
This gave me a number of choices as to how to handle the tweet, but since I wanted to see that actual article, I clicked on Open Browser.
Up popped the article related to the tweet. I was then able to scroll down the article and view it in a normal browsing fashion. After closing the browser, I was back up to the tweet list, and then clicked Back again to get back to the Gravity home page. It may be splitting hairs, but I do wish that the app would maintain a app home screen icon, so that no matter how deeply I had drilled I would be able to get back to the Gravity home screen with just one click.
The ability of Gravity to facilitate the posting of pictures is so cool that I just have to throw in a screen shot here. After I selected one of the images shown on the Gravity home screen, it presented me with a scrollable list of images. I selected one, and then clicked Options to get the screen below.
I then clicked on TwitPic, added a caption in the field presented, and clicked on Post. It was that simple.
There is a demo video of Gravity posted by the developer that shows the app in action:
Additionally, tutorials showing some of the features and function found in Gravity are now available here at the Daily App blog, too.
Gravity is available on Ovi Store for $9.99 (USD). A 10-day trial version of the app is also available for download.
