Positron Delivers Real Gaming Value for Your Money
by JasonBlack
I know that when it comes to making decisions about buying apps or games for your mobile device, it isn’t a decision that any of us take lightly. We all want to know – especially when it comes to paid content – that we are getting real value for the money we spend. And rightly so. The money you spend on apps could just as easily be spent elsewhere, but you weigh the facts and then decide if you want to make the purchase.
And, as you know, we do our best to identify only the best content in Ovi Store, so that if you are going to make a purchase, you can be confident that it will be money well spent. There will be a personal return on the investment, in terms of the fun you have with the game, the usefulness of the app, or whatever personal criteria you apply.
So today, I am going to share with you a game that just might be the best value for your money you are likely to find in Ovi Store in a very long time.
We’ve been playing Positron, from the Moscow-based developers Buzz Software, and here’s why I think you are getting an amazing deal: The game is only $0.99 (USD) to download, but it includes 111 levels that you can play. When you break it down, that comes out to less than 1 penny per level!
I can’t think of any other game that can match an offer like that – if you happen to know of any, please feel free to share them with us. (For clarity, my point here is that Positron is a serious bargain for you mobile game dollar.)
So what do you get for less than a dollar? You get a really compelling, arcade-style puzzle game, where each level is different and requires different actions to successfully complete it and move on to the next level. As the developers note about the game on their website: “There are no random events in the game, which means that your success totally depends on your own skill.” Nicely said.
For starters, let’s check out this quick demo from the developer that shows the game in action:
You are the little pink ball called “Positron” and it is your job to eat a specific number of “Infotrons” on each level before you can leave through an exit door and move on to the next level. Along the way, there are assorted traps and objects that will get in your way, as well as little baddies, like the Toothy Eye and the Brainsucker that will do their best to devour your little dude.
With the successful completion of each level, you will unlock a new level, so you can move on. And, if for some reason you are unable to complete a level, you can try, try again.
Positron reminds me of Pac-Man, but with so much more going on. It is challenging, but not so difficult that you will find yourself getting stuck and unable to move on. And, as long as you can learn from your mistakes, you can take corrective measures for the next time you try again. If you need it, there is a good Help section built into the game to give you some pointers before you start playing. Additionally, you can adjust the speed of game within the Settings, but the “normal” speed is quite manageable (IMO).
The game is available for Nokia S60 3rd Edition devices – I have been playing it quite happily on my Nokia E72. It is also available in multiple languages, which is a nice touch (details below).
And, for the code junkies out there – if you happen to speak Russian – the source code for the libraries used in the game are available online, too.
As I noted, Positron is available for $0.99 (USD) in Ovi Store, and you get plenty of value for your purchase. I promise.
