I think I may have found the easiest app to love, ever. It’s called SMS Undo from Bulgaria-based Melon Mobile , and just like its name suggests, this ultra-convenient little app gives you a chance to stop an SMS message before you send it, and if necessary, fix it. (Honestly, I could stop right there, and call it a day, but let’s explore, shall we …)

This app reminds me of a feature that Google added to their Mail program a few years ago they called “Mail Goggles” whereby you had to answer a few basic math questions prior to being able to send e-mail late at night. You know, you’ve been out, or working late, and you decide to send e-mail at the spur of the moment to that certain someone … or should you? This program gave you a chance to make sure you really wanted to send that mail.

In that same vein, SMS Undo gives you a chance to cancel a text message before it flies off into the great data waves in the sky, and make sure you really are ready to send it.

The app is tiny (only 0.06 MB in size), and conveniently runs in the background while your device is on. During the initial set-up, you simply toggle the Undo function to “On” and then set the Timer for how long you will need to review a text message while deciding if you are ready to send, or need a chance to go back and make edits to your message. The timer can be set from 5 – 30 seconds. I have mine set at 15 seconds, which is plenty of time to re-read the length of a text message, and make sure it is correct.

If the message is correct, press the Send button displayed by SMS Undo, and your message will be on its merry way. If you need to make changes, press “Cancel” and you will return to the message you created, where you can fix any glaring errors, whether those are typographical or otherwise.

That’s it. This couldn’t be any easier. Or, any more convenient. It works exactly as promised, and serves a genuinely useful purpose. I look forward to trying more apps from Melon Mobile.

There is one small caveat for this app – which the developer reminds us about in the Help section for the app: If you decide to undo a send to multiple recipients, you will have to undo and then edit each SMS, one at a time. So, if you have a habit of sending SMS messages to groups of people, make sure you check your spelling before hitting the send button.

SMS Undo is available in Ovi Store for $1.99 (USD) – a total bargain, in my opinion, and it works on a broad range of Nokia Symbian OS, S60 3.x and 5.0 devices.

And, if you happen to need it, the developer offers a User Manual on their website, but my guess is you won’t need it.
