Calendar Conversions is a simple utility application that lets you convert a date in a calendar format to another format. The application supports conversions to 12 different date formats including Unix time() value and Excel serial formats. This application is created by CannyTech, who have developed several other applications in Ovi Store.

The main screen 12 collapsible panels correspond to the available calendar formats. You can choose any one of these calendar formats to enter your date. Once you enter the date and click the ‘Calculate’ button, the date is automatically converted into the 11 available calendar formats. All you need to do is to click the panel of your interest to see the result of the conversion.

To make the data entry simpler, the developers have also provided a ‘Today’ button. You can click this button to avoid manually entering details for the current date. Below, you can see the process of entering a date in ‘Gregorian Calendar’ format. Simply put, you enter a year in the text box then you select the month from the selection and then you proceed to enter the day. You can also specify exact time in hours, minutes and seconds format.  This feature is particularly useful when you are want to exactly time a religious event.

As an example of conversion, I converted a date from ‘Gregorian Calendar’ to ‘Indian Civil Calendar’. The date of 3rd March 2011 corresponds to the 12th day of ‘Phalguna’ month of the year 1932. The name of the weekday also is calculated to be ‘Brahaspativara’ (Thursday). Now, if you want to find out what 3rd March 2011 corresponds to on the ‘French Republican’ calendar, you just have to click on the corresponding panel. In effect, you don’t have to re-enter the date. You can be sure that the source and target formats are correct by referring to the top of the panel where it states ‘ Conversion of Gregorian to French Republican’.

I noted that the data entry can be a bit cumbersome due to the small text font and tiny text boxes. I did not face any difficulty navigating across different calendar formats but the application can be made better by simple improvements to the user interface.

Overall, Calendar Conversions is a good utility to quickly convert dates across different calendar formats, and I suspect would be very useful to plan for religious events where accuracy is key.
