The Craigslist Classified Ads Are a Click Away with CraigsPro for Nokia

Editor’s Note: Some of our colleagues at Forum Nokia have kindly agreed to help with app reviews here in the Ovi Daily App. Today, we welcome Jason Jackson, who took the new CraigsPro app for a spin …

CraigsPro by Escargot Studios is a handy utility that brings the popular classifieds site Craigslist to your Nokia mobile phone. The application offers the typical functionality one would expect from Craigslist and even a few features not easily accessible via the website, such as multi-city searches. So if you’re looking to buy farm equipment that’s for sale in either Stuttgart or Saskatoon, you’re in luck – even though you apparently have a lousy commute.

Unlike the bare-bones website, the Qt-based CraigsPro application manages to display classifieds in a format that is clean and attractive, which is a welcome departure from the familiar sea of blue links on a white background. Shoppers can also view photographs for any classifieds that include them, so they’ll never have to buy another kayak sight unseen.

The application’s main screen enables users to narrow their search parameters by location and category and also allows for a number of user-defined filters that limit search results to, for example, real-estate listings in a specific price range or classified ads that only include photographs.

For regions that craigslist has broken down into smaller geographic segments, users can quickly select their preferred neighborhoods from any search results page. Users can also save popular searches with one touch, so they can access new results without going through the trouble of reentering search options the next time they launch the app.

At the bottom of each classified, users see a series of icons that let them view the actual posting on the craigslist website, bookmark the classified for future access, Tweet the ad to devoted followers in the Twittersphere, forward the posting to a friend via e-mail or respond to the party looking to sell that 1970 Torino with your name written all over it.

For those who wish to be reminded of why we all carry mobile devices in the first place, you’re always one click away from calling the advertiser of your choice and starting the negotiations for your latest must-have item. If that latest must-have item happens to be a date for Saturday night, fear not. All Craigslist categories are included in the CraigsPro interface – even the personal ads.

CraigsPro, available through Ovi Store for $0.99 (USD), is missing one key Craigslist feature, as users cannot post their own classifieds via the mobile app. However, Escargot Studios recently released CraigsPro+ ($1.99 USD), a more robust version of the app that lets users post their ads and photos from multiple Craigslist accounts while also providing account-management features. Neither version supports access to Craigslist’s frequently quirky discussion boards, but that’s hardly a deal-breaker for those using the site for its most conventional purposes.
