Easily Track Your Workouts with Fitness Planner for Nokia
by billperry
One of the most difficult things about working out is tracking your progress so you can stay motivated, but there’s good news, Fitness Planner by BLStream allows you to easily monitor your athletic improvement over time from the convenience of your Nokia touch screen device.
Fitness Planner is an easy to use, Qt-based app for Nokia touch screen devices like the N8 that enables you to set a specific goal for an activity for a particular day. Once you complete the activity you can input your results and then the information is stored and available to view on your device. There are three main buttons across the top: Calendar, Graphs and Settings.
Several types of activities are supported that should appeal to almost everyone: Walking, Running, Bicycling, Swimming, Rowing, Hiking, Rollerblade Skating, Aerobics, Step Machine, Ski Machine, and Skiing.
Fitness Planner provides both a calendar and graph view for tracking your activities on a daily basis. Personally I prefer the graph view because it provides a simple to understand bar graph depicting my goals and what I achieved per activity.
The UI is intuitive and because of the way BLStream organizes tasks and functions into similar screens there’s no need for a “how to” button or screen.
For the past several weeks I’ve been using Fitness Planner to track some cycling that I’ve done and it was straightforward to use.
First I used the calendar view to select the day and time I planned on going for a ride. I estimated that I would ride 15 miles within 50 minutes, which is pretty fast.
After the ride I entered the results that were different: 12 miles in 58 minutes. Fitness Planner then gave me a percentage value of what I completed of my goal.
I could then view my progress using the graph view comparing what I did two days prior.
In the graph view above the orange vertical bars were my goals and the green vertical bars are what I actually accomplished.
Two other nice features are the ability for the user to select from one of five languages for the app and to specify the formats for time and units.
In the images below, the left UI is in Spanish and the right UI is in English.
Because of these options, Fitness Planner should appeal to a much broader audience of users globally that will find comfort in using this app in their native language.
With all of the great features that BLStream put into Fitness Planner, there are some nice things I’d like to see in an update: ability to specify a decimal value for distances, like 3.1 miles; and a way to share my daily workouts to my social networks like Twitter and Facebook, which we have seen in similar fitness applications.
So if you’re the type of person that does any type of physical activity and are looking for an easy way to track your progress from your mobile phone, then I highly recommend Fitness Planner.
Fitness Planner is available for $ 0.99 (USD) in Ovi store.
