Last week we told you about UTV Indiagames and their great achievement of reaching 100 million downloads from Nokia Store. Now they are accompanied by our Nordic friends Pico Brothers, who just recently also joined the exclusive 100-million club. With great apps like Youtube Downloader and Milk the Cow, the Pico Brothers surely lives up to their motto of making mobile phones more fun. The guys behind Pico Brothers are Niklas Karlström and Kristian Engsjö (and also their dog Viggo). Pico Brothers have been developing great apps for Nokia Store for several years now, and have recently also started developing for Windows Phone, so be sure to check out their apps on Marketplace as well. We congratulate Pico Brothers for reaching this milestone and look forward to more amazing apps that will make our devices more fun to use!

100 million. That is a remarkable number. With great titles like Ra.One Genesis and IPL Cricket Fever, UTV Indiagames, part of The Walt Disney Company, is the first developer to achieve more than 100 million downloads in Nokia Store. Vishal Gondal is the founder and CEO of UTV Indiagames, and has a long relationship with Nokia. He says that Nokia Store is one of the factors that created a gaming boom in India, since it’s really simple to use and the variety of content attracts people in all ages. Hitting 100 million downloads is of course not an easy task. Vishal believes that an important factor is the development of the Nokia ecosystem, and the support Nokia gives to developers. UTV Indiagames have truly set a new industry benchmark for developers, and they did by applying a hyper local approach. Vishal is now looking forward to launching Indiagames on Windows Phone. Read the full story about UTV Indiagames and how they gained global success at Nokia Conversations, or see what Nokia’s head of developer, Marco Argenti, has to say at developer.nokia.

The Nokia developer community is full of inspiring people. Mario Boikov is one of them. Mario is the guy behind great apps like Jamify and Tvmatchen, and he recently was appointed Nokia Developer Champion for his highly appreciated involvement in the Nokia developer community. As Mario is the first Swede to be recognized as a Nokia Developer Champion we had a little chat with him about where he finds his inspiration, what advice he would give other developers, and what he thinks about the future. Mario, first of all, congratulations to the Nokia Developer Champion title, how does it feel? The though of receiving the Nokia Developer Champion title never crossed my mind, so I was totally surprised. It really feels good to be honored with this award, especially since this is something I’ve been doing mostly in my spare time. An athlete probably gets a couple of medals during his/hers career but as a developer you’re happy if someone tells you that your software works well. Getting this kind of recognition is fantastic and gives your motivation a boost. When starting with a new project, where do you find inspiration? I often get my inspiration from passionated developers. You always end up in a worthwhile discussion about interesting technologies, best practices, and such. You have shared a lot of great tips in the developer community, if you would give one good advice for people who just started developing for Nokia, what would it be? Get involved in the community. Join the Nokia developer community at http://www.developer.nokia.com. You’ll not only find a lot of good articles, references and example code for all Nokia platforms, you’ll also find forums, groups and project hosting. If you have a special interest in Qt-development, join the Qt Developer Network community at qt-project.org. It’s a friendly community and the web site contains all you need to know about Qt-development. If you look forward, what type of trends do you see or predict that is interesting for developers in the Nokia community? As an open-source advocate I’m quite curious about Nokia’s intention with Qt since they still put a lot of effort into the project. There’ve been a lot of noise about ‘Next Billion’ and that Qt is a part of that strategy. The question is if the ‘Next Billion’ has something to do with the rumored Meltemi OS (Qt on top of Linux) for a new low end device which should replace the S40 OS and Symbian. If such device exist and the upcoming Qt5 release is used to its full potential, I think we’ll have to reconsider the term ‘feature phone’. Thanks a lot for sharing Mario, we look forward to read about your future projects! Inspired? Read more about how to become a Nokia Developer Champion

You provide the URL for your Windows Phone Marketplace app. Once you have chosen message, visuals, and banner sizes, the Online Marketing Tool will do the rest, and then you can use the banners instantly. That’s really great, I want to get started right away
