(22 votes, average: 3.82 out of 5)Thanks for the great response regarding the Nokia N97 Widget Competition that is currently running on the new site
To answer some of the very many questions regarding the competition:
There are 10 widgets and devices to be won. Each widget competition runs over 2 weeks, during which the created widgets from this period of time are contending for that specific slot on the competition page of the site
Winning widgets will be added to the winners’ page as soon as they have been selected by the jury. Due to the amount of created widgets this may take a couple of days, so please bear with us. The countdown did indeed have a slight hick-up, but this should all be resolved now.
As soon as a winning widget has been selected, it will be announced both here on the Nseries blog and on the site. Further posts will reveal when they are developed and available for download from Ovi Store.
If you haven’t yet created a widget – check out the video below and then get started!

Nokia, thank you for communicating with us on this competition. I personally was very happy to see this post explaining how the competition would work. This is a decidedly better experience than the last one and am glad that our feedback has not been disregarded.

So, I am still a bit confused. Does that mean that out of all the widgets that have been posted, only 1 will win for this two week period, and then for the next two weeks, one more will be picked? 20 weeks, one widget picked every two weeks?
or are they picking ten people right now?

chris said
they are picking one widget every two weeks and if you entered your widget the 2 week before that means that when that timer starts over you have to enter a new widget.

That is what i was afraid of. It seems that really lower the chances of actually winning one. Finishing in the top ten is easier than finishing first. Lol. But, all any of us can do is wait. And don't get me wrong, i am not complaining. I mean, its a free phone.
good luck to all.

I have a question that want Nokia to address suppose i entered a widget when the timer wasn't working i want to know if the widget would have still entered to the week after because i would hate to find out that it wasn't due to the down time!

@Chris: as far as I could tell, the timer was working fine at first. I watched in count down all the way to zero. then it got all funky. So, if it was "when the timer wasn't working" it probably means you are in he second batch. But I am not from Nokia, so I couldn't say for sure.

Omg i tried to open the widget site and to my surprise it required me to enter a password what is going on?

Oh good, I thought maybe I was the only one who was getting the strange password thing. Perhaps they are finally picking a winner and only the judges are allowed to look at all the widgets right now. Your guess is as good as mine. (Probably better actually. lol)

Yeah, good luck to you too. If you win the first one, you gotta help me win the second one.
haha, and of course, if I win, you will be my top priority when it comes to the second one.

Hey is it just me or does anyone else think that nokia should change the limit of entries. They should only allow 1 entry per person in each competition running for 2 weeks. This would certainly ease them of soo many entries from 1 competitor!?resulting in a faster and better picking of winners!because i think that it isn't fair for people to enter more than 1 widget that's like not cool!

Limiting how many entries would give everyone a better chance, but, maybe nokia is looking to have a great many entries. The more entries, the more likely they will find a real good one that is worth developing into a real widget?
I think that they should have been able to pick one by now. The second round is nearly over and they still haven't picked the first winner. Seems a bit odd to me…

Nokia showed in the last contest they don't care if someone enters more than once, (several in the top 50 were from the same person). The rules don't forbid it and the website pratically encourages people to submit more than one. I see no problem with it, as it is about the quality of the idea, not how many different useless widgets someone can create. Also with the most common word widgets often you don't know if it will work till you have it, so one may be a dud but you have another widget that is a possible contender.

Haha, it seems once again the clock is having trouble after reaching zero. I have to agree if you chris about the competition not being what I expected. But the way I see it, I either get a free phone, or I don't. LOL. he competition is probably ran by just a small group of people, not the entire nokia company. Once they announce the first winner, I think things will be much better.

Fine Print said
That would be nice, but according to the fine print in the contest rules, winners don't have to be notified until sometime in November….basically until after all the competitions are done.

Payton said
I noticed too that the fine print says they can be notified as late as november, but, if they were really intending on doing that, why would you break it up into two week segments at all? IMO, they should have had the contest last for 4-6 weeks and picked all the winners at once. But thats just me.

I'd say this competition is run better than the last one, still not running flawlessly but its an improvement. I imagine they are trying to decide on the widget still. Considering that most of them don't work 100% of the time its understandable they are having trouble trying to find one that is the best. Also, again I'm just guessing, maybe they have already contacted the "winner" but untill they recieve a response from him / her they will not anounce it in case they need to go to the runner up.

Payton said
It is possible they have contacted the winner, but if said "winner" hasn't checked his/her email by now, two weeks later, I don't think he/she really wants the phone. I find myself checking back every day, at least twice a day to see if anyone has won yet. But I will admit, the whole set up for the competition is GREAT! People, me especially, need to learn the art of patience I think.

For once and for all, Nokia contest organizer should at least make some voice here, we are all at lost…Have they contacted the winners already? When will the winners name be posted? Please speak up…

i agree if they know they are having a delay they should notify the public and then people would be more at ease!

There you have it. I am sure they aren't delaying the process just for kicks and giggles. I am glad that they are taking this long… well, at least I know that they are considering ALL the possibilities. I am sure it will all work out in the end.

Nokia just e-mailed me! I have won all 10 N97s!! My winning widget is a tap-dancing beer-drinking monkey that reads a newspaper while writing the most common word on the Internet onto a blackboard. I didn't think I would win, since my widget always said "porn"….
