Picture this: It’s Sunday morning, you’ve just got up after a hard night grooving in some funky club. Your body aches from your dance floor moves, your hair smells of cigarettes and your body is sticky with sweat. You’re still buzzing, and while your heart tells you to carry on loving the music, your head is telling you to chill.
A den of Zen
If your dilemma ends with you putting on some tunes and taking a bath, you don’t live in Berlin. If you did, you’d head straight to the Liquidrom. Part of the Tempodrom complex just off the Hallesches Ufer, the Liquidrom is a spa that combines the minimalist designs of the architect bureau Gerkan, Marg und Partner with the Zen like calm of a temple.
5000 years ago the Greeks left offering to their gods at spas. While there might not be any worship going on at Liquidrom, it sure is heavenly.
Spas in their eyes
You might think, in the 5000 years since ancient Greeks came up with the spa concept, pretty much every possible variation had been thought of.
Yet I’d wager a weekend of full body massages that the Liquidrom is the first time any spa has made chilling quite so thrilling.
Making waves with water music
Take the main pool, filled with warm salt water. When you lie naked on your back and gaze at the mesmerizing psychedelic projections flickering on a domed ceiling, your worries float away as easily as you do. Silence is encouraged so you can feel the music vibrating through the water. And here’s the real genius of the Liquidrom: thanks to a unique underwater sound system, the chilled tunes travel perfectly through the balmy water.
Get dreamy and steamy
Whether it’s didgeridoos, Gregorian chants or house beats, the mood music makes it a great place to get close to your significant other. Thankfully, unlike in medieval times when the church tried to ban bathing for being immoral, there’s nobody to police your smooching. And if you want to get steamy in another way, try the Finnish and Turkish saunas, complete with a sauna master who ceremoniously throws water on the rocks every hour.
Life as a Spa fly
Your soul suitably sated, you might find your revitalized body in need of sustenance too. Fortunately, Liquidrom has a bar that serves both drinks and delicious nibbles like Thai buffet. With massages also available, you have all you need to rejuvenate yourself after a night on the tiles. But why restrict your visits to the Liquidrom only to post-clubbing sessions? Instead, take heed of the Roman poet Horace, who doubtlessly spent plenty of time at the spa, and seize the day… as often as you can!

Awesome
Definitively worth the visit. Love the way music is used in the main pool.

I totally agree. It’s such a fantastic concept I’m surprised nobody has thought of it before. Berlin has so many cool places to hang out, but this will always be right at the top of my list. There’s no better place to enjoy waves of music!
