Good old-fashioned travel info, served up the old-fashioned way

30 years of The Travel Bookshop and 10 great books to celebrate ‘em. Get out those reading glasses, folks.

You may have discovered The Travel Bookshop on a relaxed jaunt around West London’s. Your attention captured by the homely, and decidedly non-commercial window display, your thoughts may well have been spirited away to your next holiday location… “I must go inside and research Sri Lanka/Cameroon/Bolivia to the extent it surely deserves” you might have exclaimed.

Or perhaps you saw Hugh Grant behind the counter in Notting Hill, the British blockbuster, and just fancied a gander. Either way, you’re certain to have enjoyed your visit. The Travel Bookshop is a mainstay – a place where you’re sure to find something of interest, and a must-visit when planning any trip, whether at home or abroad.

We were delighted to see that this true London classic will be celebrating its 30th birthday this year, and what better way to celebrate than point to the real stars – the books! In The Guardian this week, shop staff Saara Marchadour and Julian Mash (you didn’t think Hugh Grant really worked there?) have selected a travel-book top 10 to wow all comers. Have a look, and then stop off you-know-where to pick them up.
