Thousands of foamy confectionaries lie primed on tables across the studio set. Hundreds of extras pace on the spot anxiously in overalls, hairnets, and diving goggles. The whistle blows: what is about to become the Guinness Book of Records-approved world’s largest pie fight has begun.
I took a hit. In point of fact, I believe I took about sixty.
That’s how it went down on the 17th of September at ABC Studios on New York’s Upper West Side. The record attempt was part of the “Live with Regis & Kelly” show – I was there and I saw the pies fly. I took a hit. In point of fact, I believe I took about sixty. I couldn’t discern friend from foe – I merely sought to cover everything that moved with pie. I believe I did my country proud. Or my team. Or, like, whatever… I was just tossing pies and fast, alright?
If this sounds completely ridiculous to you (and frankly it should), there was a more serious note to the proceedings. The supplier of the pies (which, as a side note, probably set an impromptu record themselves as the most delicious ammunition eve) was Stew Leonard’s, who donated $10 for every pie thrown to the Meals on Wheels Association of America!
