N’bot Video

Last edit October 24th, 2009 By I Heart Engineering

N’Bot is a Mobile Robotics Development Platform for the Nokia N900. Arudino compatible microcontroller and Bluetooth allow the robot to be driven by the N900.

  2. wow, awesome! Im no good at robotics, so this might sound stupid, but will you program it to run around? or will there be a remote controller? HEY, if you faced the n900 on the bot the other way, with the camera facing forward, and got another n900, you could use one to control the other using the onboard camera! Im sure you can use Bluetooth to transmit comands from one phone to another!

  3. So… there are several use cases for the robot.

There are two cameras on the N900 so the phone faces forward so it can use the front camera and display feedback (funny faces) to people it meets on its adventures. The increased resolution of the rear camera is not advantageous for real-time computer vision tasks given the limited on-board processing power. The other goal is the ability to stream video from the robot, so again increased resolution is not helpful.

    Use Cases

    1) One N900 – Docked : This allows the robot to operate autonomously and use additional sensors and grippers to achieve tasks.

    2) One N900 – Docked plus a Laptop : The robot will be drivable via mouse or joystick from the computer and provides a two way audio/video link.

    3) One N900 – Undocked : The robot can be driven from the phone by a human operator. No feedback.

    3) Two N900s – One Docked / One Undocked : The robot can be driven from the user interface on the N900 and it streams video and sound back to the operator.
