Bike Dashboard – Weekend progress.
03.16.10
It’s been a long and busy weekend and we have made some progress. We figured out how to mount the N900 to the bike! We took a bike reflector and Brett used a dremel to cut away certain pieces. This helped it fit better onto the N900 phone case we attached it to. The piece originally intended to mount the reflector was attached to the back of the N900 phone case so you can just slide it right on when you’re ready for a bike ride. Here’s a video of Brett using the dremel:
Here’s a video of Sarah demonstrating how the N900 will slide on to the mount:
Brett and I are almost done with the Bluetooth feature and we’ll be updating you on that soon.

I liked your idea at first (you could easily snap the phone to the bike), but are your guys sure that the case in question will *really* hold your N900 in place? I mean, from what I saw in the second video (around 16s), Sarah almost didn’t use any force at all to set it in place. My guess is that a not-so-hard bump might send your phone flying…
I’d suggest you to adapt a GPS holder to hold it to the bike. It might not be so easy / fast to attach it, but it might keep your phone much more secure, and also easier to adjust its position according to the rider…

Thanks for the suggestion! What’s not immediately clear from the video is that there is a little lever that actually snaps in place to hold the phone to the mount. So far, its been working great, but there are always ways to improve it!

Sorry, George, I just saw that you wrote here! We got the case from Mangowalk.com

Fast and no problems! There are also a bunch on eBay but they will take a while to get to you. Good luck!
