The Progress So Far….
03.13.10
While the teams are all frantically coding and testing out their designs with less than two weeks until their creations will be presented to the judges at CTIA, we wanted to give the PUSH followers a quick overview of how the three teams of finalists are coming along. Read on for the latest updates from Bike Dashboard, Pit Crew and Niko.
Bike Dashboard –
BrettSarahTops, the team behind Bike Dashboard have already made some great progress! They’ve mocked up their first GUI example, which you can see below, and have been working hard using Python for coding and Qt designer.

They’ve also got the bicycle and stand that they’ll be using to demonstrate their concept at CTIA. Their speedometer is also working as you can see in this video:
NIko –
As you can see from above, Niko the N900 Robot is already looking pretty awesome! He was created out of Lego Mindstorm NXT 2.0 and the hacker behind the project, Eric Liu, is now pushing his concept further by attempting to incorporate a rotating platform that will allow people to take pictures of Niko’s surroundings 360 degrees opposed to just in front of him.
There’s also been some good advancements on the coding side of the project with Niko’s Twitter stream receiving its first API based message on @N900Niko. Check it here:http://twitter.com/N900Niko/status/10094662064
Pit Crew –
Team Pit Crew have been testing out their Tomy AFX track they received last week and apparently had to do a ‘couple of hundred laps’ that were ‘reluctantly performed for purely scientific research purposes’…

Although they’ll still be using vintage slot cars, they’ve decided that a new slot car track will give them more control over the variables that could affect their concept; mainly the connection quality between car and track. They’ve been working on that very connection this week after they received the main component that they’ll be using to collect sensor data from the track and relay it to the N900; the Arduino.
